Tofer's Car Tales
США
Добавлен 28 фев 2009
Hello! Thanks for visiting Tofer's Car Tales!
Being a lifelong car nerd, I’ve accumulated a ton of random automotive facts and trivia I'd like to share. I've learned some video editing skills over the years and I enjoy cobbling together videos that are visually interesting. I'm not a pro however, so please forgive any rough edges. =]
I love all cars, but have a particular fondness for underdogs and unsung heroes. Of course just about anything produced in the '70's and '80's qualifies. A majority of these cars suffered massively from smog regulations and dubious build quality. So for those that have actually survived... there is a special place in my heart.
I'll stroll right past a Ferrari to check out a Ford Fairmont. My knees go weak at the sight of a pristine first gen Ford Taurus. And I particularly adore the most unloved of all Mustangs, the Mustang II.
My hope is to produce content that will entertain by telling the fascinating stories of how these cars came to be.

The rumors of Pontiac's return have sparked some rather heated debate... but let's all just take a moment to dream it cold actually happen.

Starman... another mildly obscure movie of the 80's that happened to feature an underappreciated personal childhood hero... the Mustang II.

Two of my go-to places of comfort as a child of the 80's was Ghostbusters and the dulcet tones of Enya. I hope you enjoy this little mashup as I continue to cobble together the next Car Tale.

Please excuse this bit of fun as I finish the current Car Tale... and provide a brief look at the next... The 3rd gen Pontiac Firebird. Oh, and yes there will be some due respect to a childhood favorite... Knight Rider Oh and for those that were a bit bummed by the reduced amount of cultural references in recent Car Tales... take heart, they will return. And HUGE thanks to @SYNTHONY for the ama...

Night of the Living Down Town Car Tale
Either didn't see or didn't get a notification for this one! Great one!
wasn't it only the 2 door sedan there was inpacted by the designflaw that made some Pintos selfcombust when rearended?
Your audio reverb combined with background music makes it painful to listen to.
will the future be as kind to the Mach E?
You mean the front wheel drive Vette.
The Pinto was unfairly maligned. It was no more apt to go afire in rear collisions than most cars of the day, and that infamous “memo” wasn’t what Mother Jones said it was.
Oh by the way I can't forget the Granada Monarch in the Lincoln Versailles
One of my favorites from the 70s. Along with the Pacer Matador Gremlin Cordoba and the Volare Aspen
At the time, performance enthusiasts reviled the mustang ii. It wasn’t fast. Couldn’t get out of its own way, if the truth be told. But it was an appealing car anyway. Ford sold a ton of them! In time, they shoehorned a V8 into it and things started getting better. But remember this. The Mustang has always been on the chopping block. The Probe was nearly a mustang. So, the mustang ii, gave the mustang at least a chance to become something better. And the front ends are very popular to build race cars with.
I still drive my '74 Mach1. Factory ordered her, Philco-Ford AM/FM with 8-track (still works), 4-speed.
Charlie's Angels drove these, I remember Kelly Garrett and Jill Monroe. 😎 Can't wait for this video
Farah Fawcett on Charlies Angels must have helped sell many Mustangs...
Just got goosebumps……wow. THANK YOU!!! #FARRAH #KINGCOBRA
As a muscle car, it was laughable. But in an age of land yachts and brougham trims, it could at least be considered "sporty".
You help bring a smile to the faces of the people I love. I remember my grade-school math teacher getting a brand new one! Hers was red (with a black vinyl top?). Thank-you!
it saved mustang my fav was the 75-76 mach 1 fastback then 77 mustang II cobra from charlies angel s
I had a '74 Mustang II coupe that was set up for drag racing, massive drag radials on the back originally it had a HiPo 289 with an aftermarket forged crank and a 4 speed toploader transmission. I still have an apparently ultra rare Mustang II Cobra II white with the dark red LeMans stripes.
The 71-73 Mustang was a bloated shell of its former glorious self. I'm glad Ioccoca had it redesigned to bring it back to its roots. The Mustang II looked great but the Malise Era engines let it down. I'd love one with the 2.3 Liter Turbo that was used in the 80s.
The 71-73 are likely my favorite at least the Fastback and the Boss 351. Otherwise it's the 65-66 Fastback and the '85-86 Fox Notchback 5.0l.
I drove my Grandma's once. The water pump went out lol
I shall wait to be convinced sir. About time btw! =)
Hello old friend from down under. To be honest... life has truly been rough these past few months. It actually is very cathartic to see your response and support. I'll do my best to convince you the humble Mustang II is worth your consideration. Greetings from Texas.
@@TofersCarTales I hear you mate, much the same boat here, getting old at least beats the alternative. Your videos give me a lot of happiness & I re-watch your music mashups. Hpoing to visit Texas in 2024 to play some poker!
@@UncleJoeLITE Definitely hit me up when you're in town! I have no clue how to play poker so you'll win hands down lol
Great video Tofer! It’s great that you’re talking about this often forgotten about part of Mustang history. If you ask the average person what the Mustang II was, no one, even people who were alive back then, can tell you.
About time the Mustang II gets some love 🐎😎 Can't wait!
Ahh yes the mustang II. I actually love it lol excited for this one buddy!
That was so dramatic
Currently sitting around waiting on parts to fix the car
There was water… in the exhaust 😭
GM built this T body car all over the world and it had quite a long run. It was kind of a latecomer to North America. I always thought they were not a bad little car and knew several folks who had them and drove them for years without any real issues if they kept up with normal maintenance. They were certainly much better in that respect than the Chevy Vega.
Thank you! Wonderful!
💙💙🙏🔴💋⭕️❤️💄
Really stupid videos with the dancing etc and the horrible music!! Stick to the cars!! Come on man!!! Thumbs 👎
Lose the horrible music!! Ruining all of your videos! Can't watch!
We had a 78 tbird. It was customized by the dealer valley motorrs in Hunt valley MD. The gawdawful rear window was filled with a white vinyl top. It had T tops and real wire wheels. It was a beautiful car. It didn't last very long. The transmission went at 88k and we got rid of it. A lady came to our door one day and gave me her number one day begging us to call if we ever were to sell. We sold it to her for 500$. She totally redid it even better than it was. Im sure she still has it if she is still alive. It was dark blue with a white top. Wish we kept it and did what she did.
My cousin's wife had a square bird. It may not have looked as good but it drove better, was a lot faster. We had the 6 she had the V8 and hers was really really nice inside. Ours was just plain old vinyl and the dash had NO gauges just speedo and fuel.
Glad you showed the commercial where they took the ltd panels off to reveal the Pacer. I still remember that from the day
To be fair - way better than the Mustang II, I still lust after that IMSA special edition
Never liked the 87 gt tail lights. My next door neighbor was a sales mgr at plaza Ford in MD. That lucky guy got several saleen's to drive as one of his perks. What a car! It was very hard for me to believe that was the same engine and transmission as the regular gt. Drove like it had Velcro tires
I was gifted an 87 trofeo in blue with blue leather. I temporarily put my current license plate on it and brought it to my house and parked it in MY spot that I paid for. I took a shower and the car had been towed away by an overzealous tow truck driver who is presently or soon to be residing in hell. I had such hopes for that car. It was sooo cool. It had the talking dash, needed work but was cosmetically vg. They wanted 380 to get it out. I had no money to get it. Very very 😭
Burt Reynolds is the first thought the Firebird that would come to mind? Not a good actor and not a good movie at all. 76 Formula Cars 1st on 8 track!
My 2007 ford is like this with me, I have had for 10 years, it’s been through 4 presidents, and 4 Astros World Series
Your videos are magnificent!
This was about a automobile that was just like a good lawn mower.
I cried when my vehicle got crashed. Not because I walked away with minor injuries. Not because I walked away from death going 70 mph and falling asleep. I cried because I would miss my car. I loved that car. My first car. A 2001 mercury grand Marquis mint with a cream puff paintjob outside and brown fabric inside. I just put police package brakes and suspension in the front 😢❤. I'll have you again one day baby
You totally ruined it with the music bud
